MeSign Automated Digital Signature Solution

Completely paperless is not only the need for the business development, but also the need to protect the planet and reduce paper consumption. However, paperless documents can be tampered with and counterfeited, which must be solved by using electronic signature technology. Now, there are many electronic signature service providers in the market, we think there are two major issues:

(1) Some e-Contract signing service providers just use the platform’s signing certificate to digitally sign the document to prevent tampering. The problem is the contract signer’s identity is not validated, and don’t use the signer’s certificate to sign the document.

(2) Some e-Contract signing service providers use the self-signed certificate that Adobe don’t trust to sign the document, so when user open this signed document, the Adobe reader have warning “At least one signature has problems”. Some case even used the unsecure 1024bit/SHA-1 signature.

MeSign digital signature solution completely solves the above problems, and provides a variety of electronic signature application solutions such as APP signing for single document, API call cloud signing for batch signing and local eSigning system for batch signing using digital signature technology, to meet many electronic signature application scenarios. Our solution uses Adobe trusted PDF signing certificate for the signer to sign the PDF document, it is particularly suitable for application scenarios where an organization needs to stamp the document multiple times, such as various certification issued by government agencies, various transcripts and certifications issued by schools, and various official documents issued by government agencies, electronic invoices issued by enterprises, etc., completely realize paperless office automation and management, and can automatically send signed PDF files to end user using encrypted email.

1Programming to call cloud signing API for batch signing

MeSince provides cloud API call signing services for users who are familiar with PDF signature programming, and realizes a low-cost, fully-automated trusted PDF document signing service. It is convenient for users to integrate trusted signatures into their own management systems and completely realize paperless office automation and management that can be used to sign various electronic contracts, employee labor contracts, various certifications and certification documents, various announcement documents, etc., and can automatically send signed documents to end users using encrypted email.

As shown in the left figure below, the user calls the MeSign API locally, and only needs to submit the HASH of the PDF file to be signed to the MeSign eSigning Service in the cloud, and the system can return the signed data. The signed data includes the PDF file signature data, time stamp signature data and LTV (Long Time Validation) data. The user writes the signed data into the PDF file to complete the digital signature. MeSign API call provides 100 times call for free and charged per thousand call times. Please note: The API call cost already includes the timestamp call cost. The MeSince time stamp service is a time stamp service trusted by Adobe, ensuring that the digital signature time of each PDF file is a trusted time.

As shown in the right figure below, the Signing Server is the user's own server for programming to call MeSign API. The user must register and log into MeSign or MeSince website to apply for identity validation, and the cloud MeSign eSigning Service system will issue this user’s PDF signing certificate that trusted by Adobe. User’s management information system and office automation system submit the PDF file to be signed to the Signing Server, the Signing Server generates the PDF file HASH and calls MeSign API to obtain the signed data. The cloud system will use the user’s PDF signing certificate to sign the HASH data with timestamp signing data and LTV data and return the signed data to the Signing Server. After receiving the signed data, the Signing Server can write this data to the PDF file and send it back to the MIS and OA system. After the MIS and OA system receives the signed file, it can send it to the end user through various channels. If user wants to send by encrypted email, the business system only needs to call the MeSince CerDB API to obtain the end user’s encrypting certificate, and then it can automatically send the encrypted email to the end user.

2Using MSS-1 to call cloud signing API for batch signing

If the user does not have the PDF signature programming ability, do not know how to generate the HASH of the PDF file to be signed, and do not know how to write the API call return signed data into the PDF file, user can purchase the MeSince eSigning System MSS-1. MSS-1 is a software system. User only need to install this software on the Signing Server, and MSS-1 will be responsible for generating the HASH of the PDF file to be signed, and calling API to complete the PDF file signature.

The only difference from the first solution is that the user does not need to program PDF signature by himself. MSS-1 is responsible for completing the local PDF document signing. It is still using the user’s MeSign API account to complete the cloud signing. MSS-1 still only submits the HASH of the PDF file to be signed to the cloud eSigning system to protect user privacy and document security.

In order to allow users to experience the functions of MSS-1 for free, all users who have passed the MeSince V3 Identity Validation can try the MSS-1 system deployed in the cloud for testing for free. The free test period is one month. Users interested in testing, please contact us.

3Using MSS-2 for batch signing locally

The PDF Signing Certificates of Solution I and Solution II are used on demand in MeSince Cloud, and for some users who need to manage and control their own signing certificates, according to Adobe policy and relevant international standard requirements, user's PDF Signing Certificates must be generated and used in hardware security module (HSM), so user must purchase a MeSince eSigning System MSS-2 with a built-in HSM card to protect the private key of the signing certificate and complete the digital signature services. This solution is designed to meet the needs of users for their own local management of the Signing Certificate.

This solution belongs to local batch signing. However, the timestamp signature required for PDF signatures also needs to call the cloud timestamp API to obtain the timestamp signature data. MeSince cloud timestamp service a paid service. The first 100 times for each account are free and charged every 10,000 times. MeSince cloud timestamp service is a time stamp service trusted by Adobe to ensure that the signature time of each PDF file is a trusted time.

As shown in the left figure below, the PDF Signing Certificate is in the local hardware system MSS-2. The MSS-2 only needs to call the time stamp data and LTV data from the cloud eSigning service system to complete the PDF signature locally.

As shown in the right figure below, the user only needs to deploy MSS-2 locally after submitting the identity validation on MeSince or MeSign website. MSS-2 system will automatically apply the PDF Signing certificate and install it in internal HSM. At the same time, the user needs to purchase a timestamp call service at MeSign website, so that the MSS-2 can automatically obtain the timestamp signature data and LTV data required for local PDF document signing. The business system (MIS and OA) only needs to submit the PDF file to be signed to the MSS-2 and return the signed PDF file for business system to delivery to end user.

If user has high requirements on the confidentiality of the to-be-signed document, the MSS-2 can be deployed on the internal network (not allowed to connect to the Internet). An additional software - MSS Agent need to purchase that located in DMZ and is required to communicate with the MeSign eSigning Service in the cloud to obtain the time stamp data, and LTV data. The new structure is shown in the following figure:

The only difference between this solution and Solution II is the localized deployment management of the PDF Signing Certificate, which does not need to call the cloud API signature. If users need to experience and test the functions of MSS-2, they only need to test the MSS-1 system. 4Using MSS-2 plus time stamp server for batch signing locally

Different from Solution III, this solution deploys a timestamp system locally. Users need to purchase a MeSince Timestamp Server for deployment on the internal network. The MeSince Timestamp Server has a built-in Adobe Trusted time stamp certificate for a 5-year validity period. This solution is designed to meet the needs of users for high-speed local access to timestamp signature. The MSS-2 system does not require networking to obtain timestamp signature data in the MeSince cloud. However, in order to support LTV, users still need to purchase a software - MSS Agent, which is in charge of communicating with MeSign eSigning Service to obtain LTV data. Obtaining LTV data is a free service. Users only need to ensure that the MSS Agent can access the Internet.

As shown in the left figure below, the PDF Signing Certificate is in the local hardware system MSS-2. The MSS-2 get the timestamp data from local timestamp server, only needs to call for LTV data from the cloud eSigning service system to complete the PDF signature locally.

As shown in the right figure below, the user only needs to deploy MSS-2 and MeSince Timestamp Server locally after submitting the identity validation on MeSince or MeSign website. MSS-2 system will automatically apply the PDF Signing certificate and install it in internal HSM.
